2Provencal Milk Pitchers 2 Pots A Lait Provencal Item # P316 Origine: Cliousclat, Provence Circa: 1840-1860 Detail: The Cliousclat Pot a Lait embodies all that we love about the true utilitarian pieces of Art Populaire. Made to be used daily but with a touch of color and form. These pots (really pichets) were used to warm milk by the fire (thus the handles held away from the fire) each morning for the families breakfast. The size of the Pot A Lait depended on how many people 'la mere' was prepaping for..thus a service of sizes were made. We have two of the sizes in descending order at 7',5.5'and 4'. They are amazing in their jaspe glaze of, Jaunes (yellow), caramels, bruns et cremes. The base Yellow-ware glaze has a patina that only time could produce and the vibrant design makes this a seemingly simple yet magnificent Art populaire piece of Provence.
